The asics Gel Pulse 2 doesn't feature is a lot of fancy padding and exotic material like its predecessor the Gel Nimbus 12. But what it does have is absolute balance. With a  cushioning that is firm enough to protect the legs during long runs, but equally soft for a comfortable ride, the just about 12 oz heavy asics Gel Pulse 2 is a highly recommended everyday trainer for runners with normal to high arches.  

With a not so ideal mushy cushioning, the forefoot of the Asics Gel Pulse 2 is designed to feel a little stiffer compared to other running shoes. This is a deliberate feature to speed up the forefoot's transition from mid-distance to toe-off. The SpEVA midsole of this shoe seems just perfect and offsets the Asics Gel Pulse 2's lack of a Gel cushioned forefoot.  

Firm and responsive run

To add to this excellent transition are the flex grooves in the outsole that make for superb heel to toe transition, what with the Asics Gel Pulse 2 not having a very wide toe box. Engineered with this improved forefoot feel, the Asics Gel Pulse 2 is tuned towards a firm and responsive run.

Pulsing with protection and comfort

Constructed with a lightweight, breathable mesh upper, the Asics Gel Pulse 2 running shoe ensures it offers ample ventilation to the feet, keeping them dry, fresh and free of sweat. Engineered with a rearfoot Gel cushioning system, the heel is well locked in place and is protected from impact, allowing for a smooth mid-distance transition. The insole is also built with a Comforter Sockliner that not only provides ample cushioning, enhancing performance, but also employs anti-microbial properties, creating a cooler, drier and healthier environment inside the shoe.

The SpEVA midsole material improves the bounce back characteristics of the Asics Gel Pulse 2 running shoe, decreasing midsole breakdown, while the Trusstic System employed in the outsole enhances traction. This plastic shank connecting the forefoot and heel of the outsole doesn't touch the ground. It instead curves around the medial side of the foot, arching neatly and locking the foot in place.
