Torsion stability with midfoot support

The GT 2160 is employed with the Duo Max stability system, which is a harder piece of foam injected into the midsole mould, especially around the medial (inside) area of the foot, extending from below the ankle to the mid-heel, making it an ideal shoe for overpronators. This medial support can easily be recognized by its standardised grey colour that prevents the arch from collapsing excessively when running. This running shoe is also employed with the Asics Space Trusstic System stability feature that enhances midfoot support.  

On the outsole, this midfoot support is represented by a thermal plastic unit or TPU bridge that wraps around the midsole right under the inner arch of the foot, offering torsional stability. This helps prevent the foot from rotating unnaturally. However, the Trusstic System in the GT 2160 is different in men's and women's shoes, with the women's shoe having amore extended bridge that wraps the foot higher enhancing stability, as women has a wider Q-angle.

Decoupled heel for plush rides

For that extra cushioning, two units of the Asics Gel cushioning system is employed in the heel and forefoot of the Asics GT 2160. The forefoot is made much more plush, while the decoupled heel absorbs shock according to the manner in which the foot lands on the ground, distributing the impact evenly and cushioning the feet from injuries. The main change in the outsole of the Asics 2160 is that it has an Impact Guidance System (IGS). The IGS is a longitudinal groove carved in the midsole. This groove guides the foot through the most efficient stride and also reduces the weight of the shoe, enhancing running speed.

Constructed with synthetic overlays, the upper of the GT 2160 wraps tightly around keeping the foot locked down in place. It is employed with a rich and removable sockliner that allows the runner to fit an orthotic into the shoe for added ergonomic comfort.
